I’ve been looking more into controlling a DSLR from an iPad. At the moment the are a few options, the one I have presently is DSLR Camera Remote where you tether a DSLR to a laptop by usb, and the laptop acts as a wireless server to the iPad. This seems cumbersome! CamRanger or CameraMator are $299 modular systems that basically act as this server meaning there is no need for a wireless network - it makes it itself. (Potential) option number 3 is using a Raspberry Pi with a wireless dongle to act as the server and using the usb port to connect to the DSLR to control the functions. This last method has been explored but is still far from a beta stage.
Surely it cant be that hard to host OnOne’s DSLR Camera Remote server on a Raspberry Pi to take control wirelessly and far more economically? Even a direct iPad to DSLR usb cable configuration isn’t possible with or without a Jailbreak. There is a serious gap in the market here which with abit of technical knowhow could easily & affordably be plugged.
