Sometime ago I remember reading this article about product photographer Matthew Lowery: http://www.profoto.com/blog/product-photography-2/matthew-lowerys-product-photography/
I was struck by the impact the photo had and after spending much of my time developing and practising various lighting techniques and post-production editing approaches, I've realised that exploring this area will lend tremendous time and opportunity.
Being able to shoot at home, the subject never moving or getting bored, and total control over lighting and ambient conditions should really allow me to develop my photography in a new direction.
As with any new approaches the results are no doubt going to be mixed and best results sparse but hopefully over time this is a skill I will be able to develop. After all companies will always need pictures of their products.
